Austin is a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) who specializes in trigger point therapy, deep tissue therapy, Swedish massage, myofascial release and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF). He was the recipient of the Massage Therapy Special Recognition Award in 2015 from Humber College, and is currently in good standing with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO).

As a practicing Registered Massage Therapist for 8 years, Austin has had the privilege of working with a variety of patients of varying age groups who experience chronic pain or discomfort resulting from postural imbalances, poor workplace ergonomics, sports/exercise related injuries, joint and fascial restrictions, carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, tendinitis (golfers elbow, tennis elbow, etc.) migraines, tension headaches and many more.

With the unique delivery of his techniques influenced by an evidence-based approach, Austin strives to consistently provide high quality care by addressing each of his patient’s needs, all while creating a welcoming, therapeutic environment where he can help relieve pain, increase functionality, and educate his patients on how to prevent future impairments.

In order to familiarize yourself with the practice setting, this video shows a walkthrough of how the clinic looks from where you walk in to where you'll be receiving your massage therapy treatment.

Austin Russell Huevos, RMT works within MECH Physio, but operates independently. However, being in a multidisciplinary clinic, we hope to provide you with the best circle of care to help address all of your needs conveniently under one roof.

MECH Physio's team consists of a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT), Physiotherapist (PT), Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), Osteopathic Manual Practitioners (DOMP) & Certified Athletic Therapists (CAT).

  • Massage therapy, as defined by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario, is the assessment of the soft tissue (muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments) and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissues and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function, or relieve pain.

  • Massage is beneficial for individuals of all ages, including infants, children and the elderly. However, there are some medical conditions for which massage therapy is not appropriate. This is why it is important for you to fully disclose all your known health conditions during your initial intake to ensure that massage therapy is the correct choice for you.

  • As with many treatments involving the soft tissues, there may be times when massage may cause some discomfort, but it is not harmful. Some of the discomfort may result from compressing or stretching certain areas of built up tension. It is important that you maintain good communication with your therapist to inform them whether you wish to stop, adjust, or modify the treatment to make it more comfortable for you.

  • If you haven’t already completed your health history intake online prior to your appointment, you will first be required to complete this form before receiving any assessment or treatment. This will ensure that your therapist is aware of any of your pre-existing health conditions and for your therapist to determine if massage is appropriate for you.

Afterwards, your therapist may conduct an orthopedic assessment to better determine the root causes of your complaints and to ensure a safe and effective treatment.

Lastly, you will be given the privacy to undress to your level of comfort (whether you decide to remove your clothing or not) before your therapist proceeds with your massage for the allotted time.

  • No. You are only required to undress to your level of comfort. If you only want to undress to your underwear, that’s perfectly fine. If you choose to remain clothed, that’s accepted too. Your therapist will leave the room to provide you with the privacy you need to get on the table and ready for your treatment.

  • Some patients prefer to chat during their massage, while some don’t. If all you want to do is relax and close your eyes, you’re welcome to do so. However, please speak up if you are ever feeling hot, cold or if you are feeling any pain or discomfort.

  • INTERAC debit is preferred, although all other methods of payment are accepted (Cash, e-Transfer, VISA, MasterCard, AMEX).

  • No, there is no direct billing available at the moment. Digital receipts will be provided via email for self submission.

  • No. Massage therapy treatments are not covered under OHIP, regardless of whether or not the treatments are recommended by a physician.

Most extended health benefit plans cover massage therapy treatments when provided by a Registered Massage Therapist and most do not require a physician’s order to do so.

Please consult with your insurance provider for specific details.

  • Tipping is not expected. Your return visits and referrals to friends or family will be much more appreciated.
